Nokia network set to land on the moon

After being selected as NASA’s partner to advance “Tipping Point” technologies for the moon, Nokia ramps up its initiatives to boost NASA’s efforts in making lunar discoveries.

According to Luis Maestro Ruiz De Temino, Nokia’s principal engineer, this plan will push through by November, during Intuitive Machines’ IM-2 mission. It would carry the system to its final destination on the Shackleton crater in the southern region of the moon.

The company said the network is designed to withstand extreme space conditions, CNBC reports stated. Nokia also said that deploying the system would allow astronauts to communicate with each other and with mission control. This would also enable them to control the rover remotely and stream real-time video and telemetry data back to Earth.

In an earlier statement, Nokia was confident that its lunar network would “provide critical communication capabilities for many different data transmission applications, including vital command and control functions, remote control of lunar rovers, real-time navigation and streaming of high definition video.”
