iPhone 15 Pro Max’s camera performance was put to the test and beat many of its competitors, except one.
When Apple revealed the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the camera was one of the highlights and it surely earned that right. This smartphone has one of the best mobile cameras today, if not the best. However, an “independent benchmark” for cameras and lenses didn’t give the iPhone 15 Pro Max the top rank. Why?
DXOMARK puts the latest iPhone through a rigorous camera test suite to determine three metrics: photo, video, and zoom quality. The independent group also said that the test suite was to measure those metrics “from an end-user perspective.”
Before we go on, know the key specs of the device in question. The iPhone 15 Pro Max features the latest A17 Pro chipset and a triple-rear camera setup, composed of a 48-MP main sensor, 12-MP ultrawide module, and 12-MP telephoto lens.
Some of the factors assessed by DXOMARK include exposure, color, noise, artifacts, and stabilization. But here’s the bottom line: the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the “best iPhone” they have tested and earned a spot as among the best devices.
The smartphone got praised in portrait photography and videography, particularly in accurate exposure even in night shots, natural color and skin tone rendering, and vivid brightness and contrast.
Here are the suggested areas where Apple engineers could work on:
- Low-light noise
- Unwanted artifacts like aliasing, flare, and ghosting
- Slightly limited dynamic range in photos
- Inconsistent detail in all zoom ranges
So, which smartphone has the best mobile camera to date? The top spot is currently occupied by the Huawei P60 Pro with a score of 156, two points higher than iPhone 15 Pro Max’s 154 points.
Do you agree that iPhone 15 Pro Max is only second place in the camera race?
iPhone 15 Pro Max is now available at a starting price of ₱70,990, while the Huawei P60 Pro has a starting price of ₱69,990.
