Your Xiaomi phone has an unlocked bootloader? You won’t get HyperOS company says

Xiaomi won’t deliver HyperOS updates on its phones with an unlocked bootloader.

Xiaomi is taking steps to the next level with HyperOS, based on Android 14, to fully support its ecosystem. This software lets users control and manage Xiaomi devices seamlessly. However, there’s a condition based on the status of a Xiaomi smartphone.

According to a report, the company revealed a prerequisite of HyperOS updates for Xiaomi phones. Even the latest Xiaomi 14 will be restricted if a user does something to it.

As per response via email, Xiaomi will disable HyperOS updates to any eligible Xiaomi phones with unlocked bootloader. The company affirms that the step is for protecting the device’s security, preventing data leakage, and ensuring stable user experience.

Xiaomi doesn’t disallow the option of unlocking the bootloader. However, users must apply for permission via community forum to do it.

Xiaomi phones aren’t ready for bootloader unlocking out-of-the-box. In addition to requesting permission, there are more restrictions that users must fulfill.

Even if they succeed, there’s only a limited window to complete the unlocking process after receiving the permission. Details about these extra restrictions will be announced later.

If you’re already an owner of a Xiaomi phone with an unlocked bootloader running on MIUI, you won’t receive any HyperOS updates. So, consider relocking the bootloader if your phone is eligible for the HyperOS upgrade. But we’re not sure whether relocking will restore a Xiaomi phone’s eligibility.

Unlocking your phone’s bootloader now has big downsides, compared to the early days of Android. While you can install custom ROMs and other personalization features, an unlocked state will make certain apps, such as banking clients and payment services, stop working. Perhaps you may want to do this on your secondary phone.

Have you unlocked the bootloader of your phone?
