“admin” Tops the List of Most Used Passwords in the Philippines, Highlighting Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities

A recent study by password manager app NordPass has revealed that the most commonly used password in the Philippines this year is “admin,” a concerning finding that underscores the prevalent cybersecurity risks faced by Filipino internet users.

According to NordPass’s website, the password “admin” has been used over 26,000 times in the Philippines, making it the most vulnerable password among users in the country. Moreover, the study highlights Filipinos’ inclination towards using easily guessable passwords, including consecutive numbers, the word “password” and its derivatives, personal preferences, and expressions of feelings.

Here’s a list of the top 10 most commonly used passwords in the Philippines this year, as identified by NordPass:

  1. admin
  2. 123456
  3. 12345678
  4. 123456789
  5. password
  6. 12345
  7. Password
  8. 1234567890
  9. 12345678910
  10. user

The prevalence of easily guessable passwords among Filipino internet users highlights the need for greater awareness and education regarding cybersecurity best practices. Strong passwords, ideally consisting of a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, are crucial for protecting online accounts and personal information from cyberattacks.

To enhance cybersecurity and safeguard their online accounts, Filipino internet users are strongly advised to adopt the following password practices:

  1. Create strong and unique passwords for each online account.
  2. Avoid using easily predictable information, such as names, birthdates, or common phrases, in passwords.
  3. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) whenever possible to add an extra layer of security to online accounts.
  4. Regularly update passwords and avoid reusing old passwords.
  5. Be cautious when sharing personal information online and refrain from clicking on suspicious links or attachments.

By implementing these cybersecurity measures, Filipino internet users can significantly strengthen their online defenses and minimize their risk of falling victim to cyberattacks.
