MediaTek Kompanio 520 and 528 processors powering student Chromebooks

MediaTek Kompanio 520 and 528 processors are elevating learning, display, multimedia, and camera experiences on educational Chromebooks.

The development in the educational Chromebook space kept coming. As the No. 1 chipmaker for Arm-based Chromebooks, MediaTek has played a pivotal role in keeping students and teachers connected for in-person and virtual learning.

MediaTek’s Kompanio series of processors powers the Chromebooks that students and teachers love. MediaTek is committed to providing students and teachers with stress-free, productive, and engaging classroom experiences.

Using student Chromebooks powered by MediaTek Kompanio 520 and 528 provides students with exceptional power efficiency, ensuring true all-day battery life. Leveraging the octa-core processor architecture, MediaTek further enhances productivity in multitasking scenarios helping students stay engaged even when running demanding workloads.

Elevating Entry Performance

The MediaTek Kompanio 520 is a significant upgrade to entry Chromebooks, elevating CPU and graphics performance in everyday activities like web, media, casual gaming, streaming, Google Play apps, and educational activities, such as STEM, Tinkercad, and Minecraft Education Edition.

Now featuring two, premium Arm Cortex-A76 cores within its octa-core CPU, plus an upgraded dual-core graphics engine, performance is notably smoother and more responsive. Faster memory and storage balance the platform with improved data-throughput performance.

Users benefit from superfast start-up times for immediate connectivity, breeze through multitasking with multiple applications, and take advantage of even longer battery life for all-day use.

Smooth and Detailed Video Streaming

A new-generation imaging processor upgrades performance and improves power efficiency, allowing device makers to build Chromebooks with large 32MP cameras to capture highly detailed images. Up to 60 FPS full HD video recording goes far beyond basic webcam experiences to give more detailed, smoother, and more natural virtual interactions in online conferencing, remote education, and working from home.

The cameras are backed by MediaTek’s hardware imaging engine that works behind the scenes to automatically enhance photo and video capture in all lighting conditions.

More Detailed Displays

With a greater resolution full HD+ display and the ability to add a full HD external display – over twice the resolution of the previous generation – the Kompanio 520 provides a notable boost to dual monitor productivity, and is more suited for projectors and presentations in work and education. It is ideal for connecting to smart TVs to play movies, shows, and online streams.

Enhanced Multimedia

An upgraded multimedia engine now includes VP9 decoding that’s ideal for YouTube and web video. A new, dedicated HiFi-5 DSP provides ultra-low power audio microphone processing, whether for video conferencing interactions, or for device makers to include virtual assistants.
