iPhone 16 rumored with new A18 CPU and two 48MP cameras

The A18 SoC is now rumored powering the upcoming Apple iPhone. It’s expected to let the smartphone use two 48MP cameras.

Apple’s 2024 iPhone series has been hit by a new wave of rumors. This time, a microblogging site revealed the likely chipset of the iPhone 16.

According to a report, a tipters on Weibo suggested that the iPhone 16 will be powered by a 3-nm chipset. If we follow the tech trail, two of such chipsets are expected to launch next year. These are the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 9400.

The one for iPhone 16 is rumoredly named A18 series. The same tipster alleged that this SoC offers dual versions of Wi-Fi6E and Wi-Fi 7, a more powerful Wi-Fi connectivity.

But what else is there? The same report noted that the CPU could support two 48MP cameras, which may include the previously rumored telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.

Besides those, the iPhone 16 series has been rumored with a RAM upgrade to, from 6GB to 8GB. Another possible improvement in the works is the new dynamic island for higher screen-to-body ratio.

The current iPhone 15 series has a capsule-style dynamic island, useful for many types of notifications. However, it’s taking up a significant space of the screen.

iPhone 16 is rumored to have a punch-hole cutout that can expand to show notifications. If you’re keeping track of things, this type of functionality has been growing among many Android phones and comes with different names, like Dynamic Bar and Mini Capsule.

While those Android devices did a good job, the iOS version remains way better in showing what’s really important to the user.

We’ll keep you on the loop about new developments, but take everything here with a grain of salt.
