iPhone 16 series leaked getting bigger batteries, ditching L-shaped battery design

Apple may ditch L-shaped batteries in favor of block type for greater capacity.

Apple has been known to use L-shaped batteries on its iPhone. One of the reasons is the bigger battery capacity for no added phone size. Unfortunately, that design is getting old with so many phones in the market getting slimmer and slimmer and still getting 5,000mAh batteries.

According to a report, the brand may likely introduce new battery designs for the iPhone 16 series. The alleged departing idea is the L-shaped battery and the incoming change is bigger battery blocks, just like on other smartphones.

The base model of iPhone 16 is rumored to get a 3,561mAh battery, much bigger than the 3,349mAh on the iPhone 15. The flagship, iPhone 16 Pro Max, is speculated with 4,676mAh battery – more juice than the 4,422mAh on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Obviously, the increased battery capacity on these phones will translate to longer standby time. However, we have no information about any potential increase in the device’s overall size. There are still other changes leaked before this, including the DSLR button, periscope camera, vertical lenses, and flat touch buttons which may affect the placement and sizing.

So, take everything here with a grain of salt. Apple could still carry on the L-shaped battery design but apply some tweaks to boost the capacity. We may see unique battery innovations on the iPhone 16 series during its launch. Who knows?
