Samsung Galaxy S25 series might ditch Exynos for Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 due to production issues

With its foldable launches (Z Fold 6 & Z Flip 6) on the horizon, Samsung is also prepping the Galaxy S25 series. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo throws a curveball: the S25 might ditch Samsung’s Exynos chip for Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Historically, Samsung offered both Exynos and Snapdragon variants in different regions. This year, around 60% of the S24 series used the Exynos 2400. But Kuo suggests production issues with Samsung’s next-gen Exynos 2500 (built on a new 3nm process) might force them to switch entirely to Snapdragon. Reported yields for the 3nm chips are as low as 20%, hindering Samsung’s plan to reduce reliance on TSMC’s chips.

This shift could have a ripple effect. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to be more expensive, potentially impacting the S25’s price. Samsung might struggle to maintain its usual cost control for the S25. With this, the Galaxy S25 is likely to sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, production woes and potential price hikes remain uncertainties.
