Netflix ponders free ad-based plan tier

A free ad-based plan tier of Netflix is reportedly making a return to attract more customers.

Ads, ads, and more ads every time you watch on streaming platforms is a pain. But you may want to consider them if you want to binge watch your have-not-watch flicks.

This is because Netflix is reportedly pondering about a new plan tier for select markets. The plan includes ads but users can watch flicks without paying.

According to an article, a rumor claims that the platform is in talks to enable such a plan in regions where its potential isn’t maximized. Meaning, users in these regions have issues with affordability, payment problems, and other related scenarios.

The new free plan tier is rumored heading its way primarily in Asia and Europe. But the concept isn’t foreign because it was initiated in Kenya until its discontinuation last year.

Can you watch everything on Netflix? Unlikely. The free plan tier likely has limited selection yet it looks promising.

Those living in regions where cash remains dominant may be urged to get credit cards to unlock more Netflix content. It’s also an excellent tactic to get a new consumer base hooked into and have them motivated to maintain a paid tier.

However, it’s still a rumor. One thing’s for sure, it’s not going to take effect in regions where Netflix is already established like the US.
