Enabling a new Android 15 feature is being linked to the sudden bricking of Pixel 6.
Want to update your Pixel device to Android 15? Hold your horses or suffer! This is because the currently rolling out Android version is far from polished.
Some users have experienced one of the most dreadful outcomes when upgrading a device: bricking. In electronics, it’s a state where the device becomes unusable due to corrupted firmware or hardware damage. If you don’t want to brick your Pixel phone, don’t upgrade it to Android 15 just yet.
On Reddit, a user reported that after upgrading to Android 15 their Pixel 6, the device bricked when they enabled the Private Space feature. It’s a new feature that serves as a private digital space for your apps and whatnot.
One replied that the event is similar to an Android 14 bug where enabling Multiple Users will lock someone out of their own phone. They managed to regain access after a factory reset via Recovery Mode. But the Pixel 6 owner couldn’t even access the Recovery Mode to do anything.
Another Pixel 6 owner also posted that their phone went completely unresponsive. They didn’t say what exactly happened but simply claimed that their unit bricked too.
So, if you’re using Pixel 6, hold off any software updates until everything settles. If you already upgraded to Android 15, don’t enable the Private Space feature. It may be a good idea not to turn on or off Pixel features until the problem has been completely investigated.
