Google has already announced that Android 16 will be arriving earlier than its predecessor, targeting a release within the second quarter of 2024. Now, a new rumor suggests a more specific release date: June 3rd.
If accurate, this would mark a significant departure from previous years, where a considerable gap often existed between the AOSP release and the actual OTA updates for Pixel devices. With the June 3rd target, Google aims to ensure a more timely rollout of Android 16 to its Pixel devices and partner smartphones.
Why would Google release Android 16 early?
This early release is strategic, as it will allow more smartphone manufacturers to ship devices with Android 16 pre-installed. This includes Google’s own Pixel 10 series, expected to launch in August, as well as Samsung’s next-generation foldable devices, slated for a July release.
