Android 16’s dessert name is rumored to be Baklava, jumping from letter V to letter B.
Android 15 hasn’t fully bloomed yet; we’re seeing the next major version already. Its successor, Android 16, is already making rounds online with interesting details.
First things first – the dessert name. With Android 15 getting the codename Vanilla Ice Cream, everyone’s expecting a new name starting with the letter W. But Google may restart the cycle by jumping from V to B with Baklava, which leaked recently.
As usual, numerous new features and improvements are involved in a major Android version. Android 16 is reported with the following additions and changes:
Desktop Windowing | Run apps simultaneously with the ability to resize windows like on desktops. |
Old Notifications Blocking | Reject notifications over two weeks old. |
Compact Heads-up | Simplify heads-up notifications for less obstructive visuals. |
Notification Cooldown | Reduce the volume of alerts during successive notifications. |
Screen Recording and Screen Casting | Create new Chips for the screen recording and screen casting on the Status Bar for more convenient quick taps. |
Priority Mode | Add a customizable Do Not Disturb Mode. |
The Settings homepage will also get a revamp, with the options layout changed. Options are now grouped in capsules based on their relationship. For instance, Network and Internet and Connected Devices are grouped.
Lockscreen Widgets are speculated to be returning on Android 16 but the early build suggests that these are exclusive to tablets. Other changes include:
- Intensity slider for color correction settings.
- Mouse pointer customizations.
- New keyboard switcher button.
- External display settings page.
- A new animation when long-pressing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on Quick Tiles.
- A new keyboard predictive back gesture animation.
