After years of anticipation, Apple Pay is finally available in the Philippines. The digital payment service quietly went live on August 3, 2026, allowing eligible iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac users to add supported Philippine-issued debit and credit cards to the Apple Wallet app and make contactless payments in stores, apps, and online.
The rollout was first spotted by users across social media and later confirmed through real-world testing by Digital Banks PH Updates, which reported that select Philippine-issued cards could already be added to Apple Wallet and used successfully for NFC transactions. At the time the service became available, neither Apple nor the participating banks had made an official announcement, although support was already working for eligible cards.
Apple Pay is now working with select Philippine banks
Initial reports indicate that several local banks have already enabled Apple Pay support, including:
- UnionBank
- GoTyme Bank
- Metrobank
- China Bank
Users with supported debit or credit cards can add them by opening the Wallet app, tapping the “+” button, and completing card verification through SMS or a phone call. More banks are expected to join as the rollout expands.
How Apple Pay works
Apple Pay lets users make secure contactless payments without handing over a physical card.
Once a supported card has been added to Apple Wallet, users can simply double-press the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, and tap their device on any NFC-enabled payment terminal that accepts contactless payments.
The service also works when paying inside supported apps and websites using Safari on compatible Apple devices.
A long-awaited launch
Apple Pay has been available in dozens of countries for years, but Philippine-issued bank cards were previously unsupported. While travelers could already use Apple Pay in the Philippines with cards issued overseas, local users had been waiting for domestic banks to officially enable the service.
Its arrival gives iPhone users another cashless payment option alongside the country’s growing digital payment ecosystem.
More banks expected
Although Apple Pay is now live, the rollout still appears to be in its early stages.
Apple has yet to publish a complete list of supported Philippine banks on its official Apple Pay availability page, and additional banks are expected to join in the coming weeks as support expands.
For now, eligible users with supported cards can already begin using Apple Pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted, marking one of the biggest additions to the Philippine digital payments landscape in recent years.
