After Years of Waiting, Will Apple Finally Add This One Killer Feature to the iPhone 17 Pro?

A promotional image for the iPhone 17 Pro shows a digital render of a silver iPhone with a large, redesigned camera module on the back. A pair of white wireless earbuds in a charging case hovers above the phone, surrounded by glowing blue lines and lightning bolt icons, symbolizing wireless power transfer. The title "iPhone 17 Pro" is in the top left corner. The phrase "New way of Charging?" is written below the phone. A yellow banner at the bottom asks, "After Years of Waiting, Will Apple Finally Add This One Killer Feature to the iPhone 17 Pro?" The "Unbox Diaries" logo is in the top right corner and at the bottom of the image with social media handles.

For years, a silent frustration has plagued Apple users: the need for multiple cables and chargers for a single ecosystem. You might have an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and a pair of AirPods, but to keep them all juiced up, you’re tethered to a wall outlet or a bulky power bank.

The phone is positioned at an angle, showing its back with a prominent, circular camera module containing three lenses. The Apple logo is in the center of the phone's back. In the background, a portion of a black laptop keyboard and a white charging case, possibly for AirPods, are visible. Below the image, the text "iPhone 17 Pro via, MacRumors" is displayed.

If the latest wave of leaks is to be believed, the iPhone 17 Pro might finally fix this. Multiple reliable sources are buzzing with a long-awaited feature: reverse wireless charging.

The Rumor That Won’t Die

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this. Whispers of an iPhone with power-sharing capabilities have circulated since the iPhone 11.

This time, it feels different. Leakers claim that Apple has successfully completed testing for this feature on the 17 Pro. The technology is said to be reliable and capable of charging accessories at up to 7.5W. While this is less than a MagSafe charger, it’s more than enough for a quick top-up of your Apple Watch or AirPods case.

More Than Just a Gimmick

Unlike on some Android phones where the feature can be inconsistent, Apple’s implementation is expected to be polished. The company’s long history of filing patents related to magnetic alignment and power transfer suggests they’ve been working to solve the very problems that have made this feature a pain point for competitors—namely, coil misalignment and inefficient power transfer. The rumor of a redesigned camera bump and a shifted Apple logo could even be a hint at a new “sweet spot” on the back of the phone specifically designed for this purpose.

Beyond the Charge

Reverse wireless charging is just one piece of the puzzle. The 17 Pro is also expected to include other significant upgrades that will make it a powerhouse for creators and power users alike. Rumors point to a new A19 Pro chip, a vapor chamber cooling system to handle sustained performance, and a complete camera overhaul with a 48-megapixel telephoto lens and an improved 24-megapixel front-facing camera.

For years, Apple has kept its cards close to its chest with reverse wireless charging, but the wait may finally be over. With a new design and a long list of technical upgrades, the 17 Pro looks set to be more than just another annual update—it could be the phone that ends battery anxiety for good.

Besides reverse wireless charging, which of these rumored iPhone 17 Pro features are you most excited about?
