Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone may finally be getting closer to launch. Fresh reports once again point to an autumn 2026 debut for the device, which has been referred to as both the iPhone Fold and iPhone Ultra.
The latest information also includes a new schematic revealing possible dimensions of Apple’s first foldable smartphone.
Earlier rumors claimed Apple’s foldable iPhone had been delayed, but later reports said development was still on schedule for a 2026 release.
That timeline has now been reinforced by well-known tipster Ice Universe, who posted an unofficial image of the iPhone Ultra alongside Apple’s incoming CEO John Ternus on X with the caption: “2026 iPhone autumn new product launch.”
While no exact date was mentioned, Apple typically holds its iPhone launch events in September, often during the second or third week of the month.
If that schedule holds, the foldable iPhone could launch alongside the iPhone 18 series.
The event would also mark an important leadership moment for Apple.
John Ternus is set to officially become Apple CEO on September 1, 2026, meaning the foldable iPhone launch would likely be the first major product unveiling under his leadership.
That gives the rumored iPhone Ultra added significance as Apple enters a new era.
A newly surfaced schematic claims the foldable iPhone will measure around 9.23mm when folded.
That would make it slimmer than a previously rumored 9.6mm profile.
The same source says the phone’s maximum thickness, including the camera bump, could reach around 13mm.
While still thicker than standard iPhones, that would be relatively slim for a foldable device, especially considering the added hinge mechanism and internal display.
Recent leaked dummy units of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra were also shown side-by-side to compare size differences.
Some images reportedly compared the unfolded iPhone Ultra next to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPad mini, hinting at a tablet-like screen experience once opened.
According to the same source, Apple may launch the foldable iPhone in two colors:

- Silver
These would align with Apple’s usual premium finish choices for Pro-tier devices.
