Apple seems ready to break its own design rules again—this time with the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, a device that’s shaping up to be the brand’s thinnest phone ever. According to early leaks, it’s so slim it makes most flagship phones look chunky by comparison.

Based on prototype images and insider reports, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come in at around 5.65mm thick. That’s not just thinner than any iPhone—it’s thinner than pretty much anything in the premium space right now. For comparison, even Samsung’s rumored Galaxy S25 Edge, already considered ultra-thin, is sitting at around 6.4mm.
But going ultra-thin always comes with trade-offs—and Apple knows it. The Air reportedly skips the multiple-camera setup in favor of a single 48MP rear shooter. There’s also talk of the SIM card slot being removed entirely, reinforcing Apple’s growing push toward a fully eSIM future.
Still, the core experience remains familiar: a 6.6-inch display, a base-tier A19 chip, and all the polish you’d expect from Apple hardware. It’s expected to start at around $899, and while official launch details aren’t confirmed yet, all signs point to a September 2025 debut.
Here’s the thing: the iPhone 17 Air is more than just thin—it’s Apple making a statement. And whether that form-over-function move resonates will depend on how much people are willing to give up in the name of sleekness.
If you’re into minimalist hardware and can live without a second or third lens, this could be the most head-turning iPhone we’ve seen in years.
