Bypass Charging

You may have heard or seen bypass charging on some smartphones. This is a special charging mode where the device draws power directly from the charger, not from the battery. It has many benefits like:

  • Preserving battery health.
  • Reducing core temperatures.
  • Enabling maximum performance of the CPU and GPU.

While bypass charging can reduce core temperatures, it still generates heat. So, the device’s temperature may rise while under bypass charging due to factors, including ambient temperature and running apps and games.

How to Enable Bypass Charging

Depending on your smartphone, the most common way to enable it is via the built-in gaming zone. Either launch that app or swipe from the left of the screen during gaming to see the option. You may need to register a game to this gaming zone to enable the quick swipe access.

Another way is to find it in the Battery settings. There’s a possible minor bug that can happen wherein the bypass charging mode is grayed out or unselectable. The common solution is unplug and plug in the charger again.

By default, bypass charging is designed for nonstop gaming. But if your device allows you to add any app on the gaming zone, then you can use it for non-gaming apps, letting you binge watch for hours while protecting the battery from wear and tear.
