OpenAI’s ChatGPT made its debut in Japan’s parliament on March 29, 2023. Member of parliament Kazuma Nakatan challenged Prime Minister Fumio Kishida with a question generated and answered by ChatGPT, comparing the two answers

The question was: “Do you think that the opinions of local government and medical professionals re sufficiently reflected in the amendment?” After comparing the two, Kishida lightheartedly insisted his answer was better by naming specific people and organizations.

This is the first time that AI has been used for a national discussion and the Prime Minister acknowledged that the AI tool can be used to gather information and intelligence.
