Dimensity 8400 is just around the corner and may land on a Redmi K80 smartphone.
If the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 as its lower version, the Dimensity 9400 is getting the Dimensity 8400. This is the theory after its name has been spotted in Xiaomi’s HyperOS.
According to a report, the Dimensity 8400 appeared on a device running HyperOS with a model number MT6899. The previous Dimensity 8300 was seen on a device with a model number MT6897.
To get a better idea, here’s a list of Dimensity chipset and their model numbers:
- Dimensity 9400: MT6991
- Dimensity 9300: MT6989
- Dimensity 8400: MT6899
- Dimensity 8300: MT6897
- Dimensity 8200: MT6896
The Dimensity 8000 chips above have 68 in their model numbers while the Dimensity 9000 chips have 69. Although the Dimensity 8400 won’t be as powerful as its flagship counterpart, it’s expected to be better than its predecessor and will feature power and performance improvements.
When is it coming out? We don’t know. Perhaps before or after Dimensity 9400 comes out commercially.
In terms of going toe-to-toe against the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, it has a significant edge on price. It’s reportedly priced at around $200, which means we’ll soon see affordable Dimensity 8400 smartphones.
We can start with the Redmi K80 series, also reportedly to be powered by new processor. If true, a POCO phone will be getting the same processor next year.
Fingers crossed!
