Gamers and Discord mods were caught by surprise as the platform experienced a widespread outage.
Discord—the popular messaging platform of gamers, streamers, and online communities—suddenly went dark after users reported being unable to send messages. Sites like DownDetector were flooded with reports coming from every part of the world, confirming that the issue wasn’t isolated.
According to the platform’s status page, the cause of the blackout was API errors affecting messaging services. The disruption only went on for a few minutes after Discord immediately deployed a fix. By 5:39 AM PHST, services were restored, and gamers were able to go back to their usual programming.
Discord wasn’t the only one that experienced this issue; around the same time, there was also a service disruption that affected the popular gaming site Roblox. The issue caused players to drop out in the middle of their session. Roblox immediately remedied the situation, restoring services by 6:04 AM PHST.
Thankfully, the disruptions were short-lived, giving gamers and streamers a chance to touch some grass.
