However, most of them fall under the consumer-grade category. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but sometimes you just want something more, something durable, professional, and powerful.
Well, look no further than ASUS’ first entry in their new ExpertBook P-series — the ASUS ExpertBook P5405, or simply, the P5.
Unboxing
Unboxing a laptop isn’t like unboxing a smartphone, there aren’t any extra goodies, just the essentials. No play, just pure business, inside and outside. The ASUS ExpertBook P5 comes in the usual brown laptop box. Inside, you’ll find the ExpertBook P5 itself, few documentations, and the charging brick.

Sleek, Solid, and Surprisingly Light
If you’ve ever taken public transportation here in the Philippines, you know just how important a thin and light laptop can be. Weighing only 1.27 kg and measuring just 1.64 cm at its thickest point, the ExpertBook P5 slips easily into any backpack, perfect for those constantly on the move.
ASUS was able to achieve such a feat because of the silver aluminum chassis that provides rigidity while also being both elegant and professional looking. And if you’re wondering, “Aluminum? Won’t that easily bend?” — the answer is no.
Why? Because the Expert Series, including the P5, underwent 21 rigorous durability tests, covering drops, vibrations, and extreme temperatures. Earning it the MIL-STD 810H military-grade certification.
ASUS even reinforced the hinges with stainless steel, rated to withstand up to 50,000 open-and-close cycles, a testament to its long-term durability. If you’re like me or any other laptop user, you’ve probably experienced hinge failure at some point, so this is a reassuring touch. They’ve also added rubber pads inside the chassis to absorb shocks.

Now that we’ve proven just how tough the ASUS ExpertBook P5 is, let’s talk about the design itself. Most of the I/O ports are found on the left, with the exception of a single USB-A 3.2 Gen2 and a Kensington lock, to give you extra mouse space when working.

Flip it open and you’re greeted by a 14-inch 2.5K (2560×1600) IPS LCD display with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio for that extra excel sheet real estate.
Since you’ll be doing most of your work on the laptop, it’s important to have a display that’s easy on the eyes. Which is why, ASUS included an anti-glare coating, DC dimming for flicker-free brightness, and low blue-light emissions to ensure that your eyes stay protected during long work hours.
You’ll also find upfront the spill-resistant full-size backlit keyboard with 1.5mm key travel and 19.05mm key pitch, perfectly tuned for comfort. And last but not the least, the extra-large touchpad (by large, we mean up to 40% larger than most) is smooth and supports Windows Precision gesture, making navigation effortless.
Performance, Cooling, and Battery Life
Under the hood, you’ve got three configurations to choose from:
- Intel Core Ultra 5 with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
- Intel Core Ultra 5 with 32GB LPDDR5X RAM
- Intel Core Ultra 7 with 32GB LPDDR5X RAM
All of which come with an Intel Arc GPU, and the top-tier variant boasts up to 19% faster single-thread performance and over 2x better battery life than the previous-gen ExpertBook B5.
And despite being thin, ASUS’ new ExpertCool thermal structure keeps temps low whether the lid is open or docked and closed. Something that most ultrabooks don’t handle well.
Battery life? ASUS claims a massive 28 hours from the 63Wh battery with fast charging that gets you from 5% to 60% in just 40 minutes. Plus, it’s rated for up to 1,200 charge cycles, meaning better long-term health.
AI-Powered for the Modern Workplace
You might be wondering, all that power just for office work? Isn’t that a bit overkill? Well… yes and no. Since this is meant to be your main workhorse, wouldn’t it be better to have more horsepower than less?
Being equipped with an Intel Core Ultra “Lunar Lake” processor means that you have up to 47 TOPS NPU and a total of 120 TOPS AI performance on tap.
Lots of big words to unpack but what does it really mean? It just means that the ASUS ExpertBook P5 is powerful enough to handle on-device AI tools and that it’s ready for the next-gen Copilot+ PC experiences that will come out later this year.
On top of that, ASUS adds its own AI ExpertMeet suite, which can:

Apart from being Microsoft Secured-Core PC certified, it also comes with a discrete TPM 2.0 chip, Fused Root of Trust, Downgrade Protection, and a ‘Last Known Good’ recovery system to restore firmware if something does go wrong.
You also get Windows Hello facial login via the built-in IR camera, a Match-on-Chip fingerprint sensor, and even a physical webcam shield for privacy. And, on top of that, ASUS also includes 1-year McAfee+ Premium (with AI Deepfake detection) out of the box.
