Five smartphones from 2022 that looks like from five years ago

In the tech world, hardware gets really old easily so manufacturers need to double down and keep up with the times, except for these five phones that looked like you’ve bought from a seedy underground tiangge from 2014

Infinix Hot 12 Play

Compared to others in this list, the Hot 12 Play packs decent specs for an almost impossible price point. You’ve got a 90Hz screen, a punch-hole camera, a 3GB Extended RAM, 6,000mAh battery, and a large 6.8-inch display. But when you flip it on its back, you’ve already know why it made our list. The Hot 12 Play’s back looks like that novelty big wall clock that was made to look like a huge wristwatch (think Casio) and often displayed at old-timer bars, mahjong halls, and antique shops. It seems like Infinix ripped, melted and shaped the back and placed it on the smartphone.

Regardless of the design, we don’t really think that the back material is made from metal, but correct us if we’re wrong. Kidding aside, the pattern gives it more grip and really helps with the heavy weight of the Hot 12 Play. If they just swapped the looks to a more refined design and color choices though.

TECNO POP 6

This little budget charmer released roughly seven months ago is a big hit amongst those who are seeking for an affordable smartphone handset without breaking the bank but man oh man— the design of this phone is really, really dated.

While we really love the color of the POP 6, the one design thing that bothered us more is the fake camera placement, the list for the phone said that it’s a QVGA camera, but it looks like an ornament that for valid reasons. Also the notch and chin is pretty terrible, way too disproportional.

NOKIA C2 (2ND EDITION)

A prime illustration of two extremes is when one has all that free space but little use for it, while the other crams everything into a tiny square.

This gives the impression that the phone’s camera would be of poor quality, even though it isn’t. Budget phones don’t typically have great cameras, but that doesn’t imply all of them are subpar. But this one, this takes a spot here with its very bland design.

TECNO SPARK 8C

With that unattractive camera configuration, the Tecno Spark 8C won’t win any design honors. For some reason, the camera module has a two-tone design with the fingerprint sensor’s right corner being lighter, which only serves to make it appear worse than it already does.

To dispel its own myth of a triple camera setup, the third camera lens is simply marked “AI” and even has the words “Dual Camera” on the side. The striped pattern on the back panel is the one saving grace in this situation. But even the words written on the back is tacky to say the least.

MOTOROLA MOTO G22

The Motorola Moto G22 might not have made our list if not for the sizable oval cutout for the top lens. Another instance where the size of each camera hole varies. The father lens is at the top, the children are at the bottom, and the smallest cutout is obviously the youngest member of the family. It almost looks like one big family of camera lenses. Even for a low-cost phone, the display’s bottom bezel is nothing to be proud of.

So here it is, our list for the ugliest phones ever in 2022— do you agree or disagree with this list? Did you find even more uglier phones? Comment down below!
