The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset may cost nearly USD 200, surging the price tag of anything it powers.
Inflation is nothing new these days but its influence on the meta of flagship chipsets is unwavering. If the next MediaTek flagship is pricey, Qualcomm’s upcoming offering is exorbitant.
According to the leak by popular tipster Digital Chat Station, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 may land at around PHP 8,700 (USD 155). That’s the base price of the flagship smartphone with this chipset.
However, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (aka Snapdragon 8 Elite) is about 20% more expensive than its Dimensity counterpart. DCS revealed that the price could be around PHP 10K (USD 190). That’s equivalent to two mid-range smartphones now available in the market.
The prices aren’t fixed because brands can negotiate; the more they order, the better the price for bulk quantities. Still, those interested in the next-generation flagship smartphones will have to shell out more.
One possible reason why these expensive chipsets can’t be bothered is because of new AI-related specifications. On-device AI features will dominate the smartphone market very soon, requiring high-tier chipsets to operate well.
There’s something else worth mentioning. An earlier report suggested that the Snapdragon exclusivity of the Galaxy S25 Series may raise the price by 30%.
