Samsung is bringing one of the Galaxy S26 series’ practical new features to select older Galaxy devices. The company’s upgraded Document Scan tool, first introduced with the Galaxy S26 lineup, is now expected to arrive on eligible smartphones through the upcoming One UI 8.5 update.
The new feature improves Samsung’s built-in document scanning experience through the default Camera app.
Previously, when users captured multiple pages of a document, the images were saved separately rather than as one file. With Document Scan, Samsung now allows multiple scanned pages to be combined and saved as a single PDF document, making it much more useful for schoolwork, office files, forms, and receipts.
It’s a small upgrade, but one many users will likely appreciate.
Samsung has also made the feature easier to launch.
Users can add a dedicated Document Scan shortcut directly to the phone’s home screen or apps screen. To enable it:
Camera app > Camera settings > Scan > Document Scan > Turn on “Add Document Scan to Apps screen”
This removes the need to open the Camera app first every time a quick scan is needed.
According to the report, the Document Scan feature will roll out to the following devices once they receive One UI 8.5:
- Galaxy S25
- Galaxy S25+
- Galaxy S25 Ultra
- Galaxy S25 Edge
- Galaxy Z Fold7
- Galaxy Z Flip7
Once Samsung releases the stable One UI 8.5 update for these models, users should gain access to the feature.
Samsung has additional smartphones eligible for One UI 8.5, but it is still unclear whether all of them will receive Document Scan as well. For now, only the devices listed above have been specifically mentioned.
