Never miss a beat again and stay in-game with APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming and APC Back-UPS Connect.
In case you’re not aware, UPS stands for uninterruptible power supply – an electronic device that acts like a powerbank for many gadgets, including desktops, laptops, and gaming consoles.
A UPS is also capable of protecting connected gadgets from damage due to power failure. It’s even equipped with numerous protocols to protect itself from overloading, surging, and voltage drops.
During a power failure, the protection triggers so fast that the PC didn’t even know what happened. This should give you time to shut down your machine safely before the UPS’ battery runs out.
Unboxing
We have the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming here, a tower UPS designed to protect your devices and even keep your gaming experience sustained. It features three universal and three IEC C13 outlets, RGB lights, and pure sine wave; something you need for smooth gaming operations.
Its large package shows the various benefits your other gadgets can get. It weighs around 13 kilograms suggesting the best placement is on the floor unless you have a special setup capable of securing it in place.
Speaking of placement, the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming has a dimension of 292.1 x 104.1 x 408.9 millimeters. Use those values for a dedicated space on the floor or otherwise.
The top area isn’t flat and that’s because of the visual notifiers, more on that below, while the sides have grilles for proper cooling. If you dive into the depths, you’ll see the massive lead acid battery.
Design and Build
At a glance, there are three sections at the front of the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming. These are the Reactor Circle, Functional Lighting, and USB Access.
The Reactor Circle indicates how much time is left when the backup power is in use. It provides real-time updates about the battery and power status, keeping gamers informed and prepared. APC also optimized the design and titled it at 160 degrees so you can see the circle at almost every angle.
The Functional Lighting notifies you about power anomalies, big or small. When there are dips, surges, or even wiring faults, the lights will pulse to inform you. It also shows the current load on the unit.
The USB Access lets you plug in your wired devices, including smartphones, for convenient charging. It comes with two USB-A and one USB-C. Why use the UPS? The APC Back-UPS Pro will protect those gadgets too from power trips when charging.
There are LEDs at the back of the UPS as well; 12 in fact. These are customizable to match your gaming setup. The LEDs will notify you of the following during an outage:
- Green: Battery level is 51% or more
- Yellow: Battery level is between 50% and 21%
- Red: Battery level is between 20% and 6%
- Flashing red: Battery level is at 5% or less
While the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming isn’t fragile, it still needs TLC. Treat it like how you treat your other high-end gadgets. So, correct placement and proper care are essential in keeping the unit going for a long time.
Battery and Charging
The APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming is a 2200VA/1320W tower and its power supply lasts depending on what’s connected. Keep in mind that the battery backup will only kick in during power loss from the main grid.
You probably experienced fluctuations in your local area and the smallest fluctuations are enough to shorten the lifespan of your gadgets. Thus, APC included an automatic voltage regulator on the UPS to keep the current at stable levels, protecting your devices.
A special feature is boasted by the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming. It’s sine wave, a critical component for battery backup during gaming. Gaming gadgets will gain the following benefits from sine wave:
- Longer Equipment Lifespan: The combination of the sine wave and AVR maximize the lifespan of all connected devices.
- Stable Backup Power: Sine wave provides stable power to your high-end gadgets to reduce computer crashes and other device instabilities.
- Efficient and Cooled: Sine wave powers and runs connected devices more efficiently and helps prevent overheating.
Another worth mentioning is that the UPS has a lead acid battery. Lead acid batteries are cost-effective and thermal-efficient and are perfectly fine with trickle charge. Lithium batteries don’t like to be fully charged at all times.
That means you can keep the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming plugged at all times, protecting your precious equipment from surges, without worrying about the UPS’ battery lifespan.
Ports and Runtime
If you have a big setup, composed of multiple pieces of equipment, use the ports at the back of the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming. A USB and data port is located below the LEDs and these sport PowerChute Serial Shutdown for graceful shutdown.
Besides that are two ethernet ports with surge protection. Connect the cable modem to the ethernet in port while the computer to the ethernet out port.
Below those ports, you’ll see more and they are divided into two sets. The first set supports surge protection and battery backup. Four ports are covered and you can use them for essential equipment, such as PC, console, router, and other gaming gear.
The second set has two ports with surge protection but no battery backup. They are designed for equipment that don’t need backup protection like printers and scanners.
A IEC C20 receptacle input is found back, alongside the circuit breaker or reset button. The former lets you connect utility power to the UPS input using the supplied input power cord. The latter allows you to reset the system after an overload condition has tripped the circuit breaker.
Below are estimated gaming times based on what’s in use:
Gaming Load | Gaming Time |
Nintendo Switch (180 W) | Around 35 minutes |
Xbox Series X (325 W) | Around 15 minutes |
PlayStation 5 (380 W) | Around 11 minutes |
Gaming Laptop (275 W) | Around 20 minutes |
Gaming Desktop (475 W) | Around 10 minutes |
The values look small but the UPS is designed for surge protection. For gamers, those minutes are helpful because they are moments when power interruptions happen during critical missions or in-game fights. Every minute of extension is worthwhile.
Charging the APC Back-UPS Pro for Gaming takes up to 16 hours. The battery’s lifespan is at least three years and up to five years.
APC Back-UPS Connect

The device looks like a square router that only weighs 300 grams with a depth of 109 millimeters. It can last for up to four hours for an average router.
Its design makes it a perfect battery backup in tight spaces. While the three different DC tips ensure compatibility with various brands with a 12 V rating.
