GCash has rolled out a new virtual US-dollar account feature in the Philippines, letting fully verified users receive US dollar payments directly into their wallet; no US bank account required.

The feature went live on November 5, 2025 and is powered by Meridian Payments US under a “for benefit of” arrangement. That means the funds sit in a USD account under Meridian’s structure; they are not deposit-insured in the US.
What it does for users
- Receive USD transfers and remittances into your GCash wallet directly, without needing a US bank account.
- Hold funds in USD inside the app and convert to Philippine pesos (PHP) only when you choose — potentially saving on poor conversion timing.
- Avoid certain intermediary fees, forex mark-ups and withdrawal charges that typically reduce take-home pay from US remittances.
This is particularly relevant to freelancers, gig workers and families receiving money from the US. Study notes that around 40 % of cash remittances into the Philippines (January-August 2025) came from the United States.
Final thoughts
The GCash Virtual US Account is a practical upgrade for Filipinos getting paid or supported in US dollars. It doesn’t revolutionize banking, but it makes the USD-to-PHP flow smoother, faster and cheaper for many users. For freelancers, remote workers, supporting families, or those regularly transferring from the US, this could make a real difference.
