A viral photo is making rounds around Facebook right now that depicts Genshin Impact being installed on a 10-year-old Samsung phone, is this true?
If you’re deep into meme culture, chances are that you scrolled past this picture circling around the internet. You also know by now that this phone can’t run Genshin Impact (even its earliest version) because basically, this is a phone from 2013– specifically a Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo S5310.
The mystery phone with Genshin Impact running on this ancient phone is posted on Homepaslupa Buddies, a Facebook group dedicated to satirizing the “high-class pretentiousness and out-of-touch humblebragging” of members from Home Buddies, another Facebook group that solely focused on home improvements back in its heydays, but is now a haven for upper-class families to flex their home renovations, similar to what another group What’s your ulam pare? is doing to food.
But if we look carefully, we may know that this unholy concoction of old and new tech is not edited at all. But how they did pull this wizardry? Giving a quick sift through the Galaxy Pocket Neo S5310, it runs on Android Jelly Bean (4.0), with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage.
Genshin Impact, on the other hand, requires at least 4GB of RAM with a minimum of Android 8.1 Oreo OS and chipsets equivalent to a Snapdragon 845 or Kirin 910. The Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo can’t even get past the 1.0GHz threshold (800MHz) so it’s impossible to run this game, let alone a ten-year-old Android device. Even most phones today can’t even run the game smoothly.
Let’s get back to how did they pull this off. Our bet is the owner knows about Android apps and managed to rename an app (changing its file name and icon) and installed it to the appropriate Android version. They didn’t need to even show its game menu, because there isn’t any. Just the amusement of seeing it being installed is enough to generate some quick laughs.
