Google is finally rolling out one of its more practical AI features: Gemini integration with Google Photos. That means you can now search your photo library using natural language, no scrolling or date-guessing required.
“Show Me My Baguio Trip” Actually Works Now
Instead of digging through albums or vaguely remembering file names, you can now just ask Gemini something like: “Show me pictures from my birthday dinner last year” or “Find the photo with my dog wearing sunglasses.” And Gemini will pull up the relevant photos—thanks to its understanding of image content and context.
This kind of functionality is baked into Gemini’s smarts, and it’s been a long time coming. With how many photos we snap these days, even basic organizing can feel overwhelming—this update makes photo retrieval way less of a chore.
How to Turn It On
If you’re on an Android device, open the Gemini app, tap your profile icon, go to Apps, and toggle on Google Photos. Once that’s done, you can start typing—or even saying—your search requests, and Gemini will do the digging.
Right now, it’s still rolling out gradually, so not everyone will have access immediately. But if you’re part of the early wave, it should show up soon.
What It Can’t Do Yet
While Gemini is great for finding photos, it’s not a full-on photo editor (yet). It won’t make collages or sort albums, and it can’t add custom labels—so for now, it’s focused purely on search and retrieval.
Still, this is a solid step forward and a clear example of how AI is starting to make real, everyday tasks smarter and easier—not just flashier.
