Meta finally allows users to delete their Threads profiles while keeping their Instagram account safe.
When Threads was launched, everyone was hype as it became the sanctuary for many Twitter users. However, the launch was faced with backlash due to issues, some of which weren’t technical problems.
One of those issues is the ability to delete a Threads account. A user can only do it if they delete their Instagram account too.
Months later, Meta has finally addressed that and has given users the power to delete their Threads profiles without deleting their Instagram.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, posted on the social media platform that two updates are rolling out. The first one is the option for deleting your Threads profile separately from your Instagram account.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Launch Threads and go to your profile.
- In the app, go to Settings.
- Select Account.
- Choose between Delete and Deactivate Profile.
It’s nice to see that users have a choice because they may simply want to take a break and come back later.
The second update is linked to the in-app feature on Facebook and Instagram. If you haven’t seen this one, the feature lets you see Threads posts within those apps.
Mosseri said that they’re giving users more control over their experience. This is why the second update will deliver new options to permit users to opt out of the aforementioned feature. You can find them on Threads under Settings > Privacy.
Unfortunately, users can only apply that change on Facebook. Instagram will keep on showing Threads posts as usual.
