HONOR Magic9 Pro Max Is Already Showing Off Before Its Big Debut.

Weeks before its official debut, the HONOR Magic9 Pro Max has already appeared in a hands-on video.

The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max is already out in the wild, even though its official launch is still weeks away. A hands-on and unboxing video posted on Weibo gives us a closer look at the upcoming flagship, including its redesigned camera system and Moss Green finish.

HONOR has confirmed that the Magic9 series will launch in China on September 28. The lineup is expected to include the Magic9, Magic9 Pro, and the top-end Magic9 Pro Max. HONOR’s official store has also confirmed a September 28 launch event in Beijing.

A completely different camera design

The Magic9 Pro Max moves away from the circular camera module seen on the Magic8 series. Instead, the leaked unit combines several round camera rings with a large rectangular camera housing that stretches across the upper portion of the rear panel.

The Moss Green finish seen in the video had already appeared in HONOR’s teasers, making this the first close-up look at the color on an actual device.

The camera hardware is where things get particularly interesting. The main camera reportedly uses a 200MP sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches, paired with an f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilization rated to correct up to 3 degrees of shake. A second 200MP sensor measuring 1/1.4 inches sits behind the periscope telephoto camera.

ARRI is coming along for the camera ride

HONOR is also continuing its partnership with ARRI, the professional cinema-camera company. The collaboration first appeared on HONOR’s Robot Phone and is now being brought to the Magic9 Pro Max.

HONOR has already been releasing camera samples ahead of the launch, pointing to the company’s focus on professional-style imaging with the new flagship.

The front gets an unusual camera upgrade

The front of the Magic9 Pro Max retains the wide pill-shaped cutout from the Magic8 series. It houses the selfie camera and a 3D depth sensor.

However, the sensor itself is reportedly changing. The Magic9 Pro Max is said to be among the first Android phones to use a square selfie camera sensor, giving the front-facing camera hardware another unusual twist.

The rest of the design looks equally polished. The display bezels are reportedly around 1mm, while symmetrical stereo speaker grilles sit along the top and bottom edges. HONOR’s dedicated AI button also remains on the right side, continuing a feature seen across recent Magic generations.

With the September 28 launch now confirmed, the Magic9 Pro Max is unlikely to remain a mystery for much longer. More leaks and hands-on footage could surface before HONOR officially introduces the phone in Beijing.

For now, the early appearance already points to a flagship with a radically redesigned camera system, dual 200MP rear sensors, ARRI imaging technology, and an unusual square selfie sensor. The remaining details, including its full specifications and pricing, should become official later this month.
