Leaked details suggest a significant camera upgrade for the upcoming HUAWEI Mate 70 series, expected to launch later this year. Rumors point towards a 1-inch sensor, potentially the OmniVision OV50K, surpassing Sony’s IMX989 in some areas. This sensor will likely be joined by a 50MP OV50K sensor (focal length yet unknown) for a powerful multi-camera system.
Beyond sensor size, whispers mention a new periscope camera with improved lenses and variable aperture technology, potentially enhancing zoom capabilities. Additionally, a 3D spatial zoom feature is rumored, offering a more immersive audiovisual experience.
Powering this revamped camera system and the entire phone is expected to be a new Kirin chip, possibly the Kirin 9100 with 5G support. This chip’s performance is rumored to rival the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Mate 70 series could also be the first to launch with Huawei’s next iteration of HarmonyOS, dubbed HarmonyOS NEXT.
For reference, the previous Mate 60 featured a 6.69-inch LTPO OLED display, a Kirin 9000S chip, a triple-camera system with a 50MP main sensor, and a 4750mAh battery with fast charging capabilities.
