An advertisement for the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro smartphone. The image features a sleek, dark gray phone with a prominent, large circular camera module on the back that has multiple lenses and a glowing blue center. A small black chip with the "Kirin 9030" branding is placed to the right of the phone. The text "100W CHARGING" is in large, white text on the left. A yellow banner at the bottom reads, "HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro Goes Full Speed with 100W Charging, Kirin 9030 Inside."

HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro Goes Full Speed with 100W Charging, Kirin 9030 Inside

The HUAWEI Mate 80 series has just passed 3C certification in China, confirming faster charging and a big design change. The lineup is expected to launch in November, which feels like perfect timing since HUAWEI usually likes to drop big announcements toward the end of the year.

Charging Speeds

The Mate 80 Pro (and Pro+ models) will support 100W wired charging, while the standard Mate 80 will stick to 66W. Honestly, I feel like 100W is almost overkill at this point. Phones charge ridiculously fast already, but I get why they’re doing it. Everyone’s in a race to push higher numbers, and HUAWEI can’t afford to fall behind.

New Kirin Processor

The high-end models will run on the new Kirin 9030 chip, rumored to be 20% faster than the Kirin 9020. That’s impressive considering all the restrictions the company has faced. The base Mate 80, though, will reportedly use an older Kirin chip, which I can see being a letdown for people who don’t want to spend extra but still expect the latest performance.

Design Changes

The series will feature a new circular camera module with a multispectral lens and dual-color temperature flash, replacing the square or octagon designs from past Mates. I kind of like the idea of a circular camera. It makes the phone look cleaner, and it stands out from the usual rectangles.

With faster charging, a powerful new chip, and a fresh design, the Mate 80 Pro shows HUAWEI’s push to stay competitive despite global challenges. Personally, I think this launch feels like HUAWEI trying to prove they can still play in the big leagues, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this phone ends up being their statement piece of the year.
