Now you can have the latest foldable phone (again) without Google pestering your smartphone experience!
Huawei is releasing the Huawei Pocket P50 New (new, not the vanilla P50 foldable) with the company aiming for a Chinese release next month. A Chinese tipster also claimed that a new P50 Pocket design will be launched at the end of the month to the next, but the latter is more possible. Huawei however, isn’t announcing any teasers as of now.
The Huawei P50 Pocket New will come with a 6.9-inch display but lacks the mini external screen from the original P50 Pocket. A Snapdragon 778G 4G processor will be inside the smartphone, as the 4G suggested, no 5G connectivity which is a bummer. The luxurious etchings the P50 Pocket has also been removed in favor for a flat design, to cut costs, we believe.
As for its camera, a triple-camera setup with 40MP main, 13MP ultrawide, and a 32MP “hyperspectral” lens are to be expected. If the previous leaks are true, the smartphone is likely to be called Huawei P50 Pocket New and will be priced lower than Samsung’s Z Flip series to sway consumers for their cheaper offering.
At around 4,999 CNY or $695/₱40,929 that’s already 50% lower than Samsung had in store. The price could be for the 256Gb variant, but until then, it’s all rumors as of now. On other news, Samsung is also working on creating affordable foldable smartphones under the Galaxy A-Series but we think that we should wait for a couple of years for that desire to come into fruition.
