HUAWEI’s next 5nm Kirin processor rumored to feature frame interpolation

Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has hinted at a new “5nm” processor equipped with frame interpolation technology. While the SoC remains unnamed, it’s widely speculated to be HUAWEI’s upcoming Kirin 9-series chip.

Frame interpolation, a technique already seen in TVs and some smartphones, creates smoother visuals by inserting additional frames. DCS suggests this could enhance gaming experiences and potentially improve battery life. However, OnePlus has already implemented a similar feature, HyperRendering, highlighting that Huawei won’t be a pioneer in this area.

Expected to debut in the HUAWEI Mate 70 series, this new Kirin chip will be paired with HarmonyOS NEXT. Other anticipated features for the Mate 70 line include a 1.5K LTPO display, a cutting-edge Omnivision OV50K main camera, a large battery with advanced charging technology, 3D face scanning, enhanced zoom capabilities, and satellite communication. The series is slated for a late 2024 launch.
