Of course, these are all still leaks, so as always we recommend taking it with a grain of salt.

But according to industry insiders, HyperOS 4 is not just a new coat of paint over the existing HyperOS 3, it is the beginning of a much more independent system architecture that is set to retain native Android services.

It’s also expected to forego the legacy MIUI code which the previous HyperOS iterations still run on. Because of that, HyperOS 4 is expected to be much more efficient and smooth to run.

As with any OS from any other manufacturer, there will be a heavy focus on AI. But from this point on, AI will play a much bigger role in managing the whole system, rather than being limited to a tool.

While we didn’t get to see any UI samples, probably because Android 17 is still in its first beta phase, we did however get a glimpse of the first devices that are slated to receive the update.

The Big List

Xiaomi

As expected, the flagships are the first ones in line, so if you just bought yourself one of these devices from the last three years, then you’re already in the clear.

REDMI

Even though Xiaomi has had its fair share of flagships that would rival the best of the best, it cannot be denied that mid-range devices are Xiaomi’s bread and butter. The REDMI Note series alone has crossed 460 million global shipments.

  • REDMI K Series (from the K60 Ultra to the K90)

  • REDMI 14R 5G

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t include Xiaomi’s performance-focused arm, POCO.

  • F-Series (from the F6 to the F8 Series)
  • X-Series (from the X6 Pro to the upcoming X8 Series)
  • M and C Series (which includes the M8, M7 5G, C85, and C71)

Who’s Missing?

This is just an initial list but there is a good chance that these phones will not receive the much anticipated update.

  • REDMI Note 14 5G – At launch, Xiaomi promised a 2-year OS update support, however, the Note 14 5G launched with Android 14 which makes it ineligible for the Android 17 update.
  • POCO M7 Pro 5G – Similar to the REDMI Note 14 5G, the POCO M7 Pro’s journey only lasts up until Android 16.
  • REDMI Note 14 Series – This series’ software support ends at Android 16/HyperOS 3 and while it may receive some HyperOS 4 features, it likely won’t be the whole HyperOS 4 experience.

When Can We Expect HyperOS 4?

It’ll likely won’t be until Q4 2026, maybe even Q1 2027 for the mid-range devices. That’s if we follow Google’s typical timeline which places the Android 17 update to reach stable status in June or July of this year.
