Instagram has rolled out a long-requested feature: users can now edit their comments after posting, eliminating the need to delete and repost over small mistakes.

15-minute edit window

The new feature allows users to edit comments within 15 minutes of posting. This covers everything from fixing typos to rewording something posted in the heat of the moment.

Instagram confirmed the update in a post on X, marking what many see as a long-overdue improvement to the platform’s commenting experience.

Edited comments will display a visible “edited” label, making it clear that changes were made. However, unlike some platforms, Instagram does not provide access to the original version of the comment.

This differs from apps like Apple Messages, where users can view a full edit history.

The update arrives alongside reports that Meta is testing a paid subscription tier for Instagram with additional features. Notably, comment editing is not part of that paid offering, remaining free for all users.

While simple, the addition brings Instagram in line with modern messaging platforms and finally gives users a small but meaningful safety net after hitting “post.”
