Are you on Team Blue? Because the US government is getting concerned over Intel’s ongoing financial crisis.
Washington is looking into possible avenues to help Intel recover. Among options, an acquisition or merger will keep the firm afloat.
Financial injections have been done already but they are just bandages and policymakers want something more concrete. If nothing’s done, it’ll be a waste as Intel’s processes and facilities are deemed “mature.”
According to the latest rumor, an acquisition deal from ARM and Qualcomm is being explored by Intel. The Snapdragon chipmaker is reportedly interested in the deal.
Other US companies are also considered like Marvell. Even Team Red, AMD, is not crossed out of the list. But if AMD grabs this chance, what’s the ending for Team Blue?
A merger as a long-term solution is preferred over an acquisition. When an acquisition takes place, one party totally absorbs the other and takes full control of their operations. Decisions may no longer be mutual but the absorbed party may retain its trade name, under the parent company, if allowed.
Meanwhile, a merger will often result in parties joining together to create a new business entity. Mutual decisions are likely to take place but all parties lose their identity or name because they will have a new one. Team Red plus Team Blue equals a historic moment, right?
So, which company do you prefer to acquire or merge with Intel?
