iOS 17.5 bug allegedly restores old deleted images

An alleged bug will let unwanted and deleted photos to haunt you back.

Got your iPhone updated to the latest iOS 17.5? That’s great because it brings a lot of improvements and fixes.

But have you been wondering why some of your old, deleted photos are coming back? Well, you’re not alone as many others are experiencing the same situation.

A bug is seemingly very good at restoring deleted photos in devices running iOS 17.5. Redditors have expressed their concern, particularly privacy.

Redditor Fickle_Dragonfly4381 noted that the issue is likely a prior bug where photos weren’t properly deleted. The shift to iOS 17.5 may have allowed the re-discovery of these images.

Redditor shadowstripes replied that the deletion of those images might have been limited to a user’s local device. This means that the images from iCloud weren’t touched and when the update came through, the syncing between the newly updated device restored the deleted images.

They further explained that such a phenomenon could happen if the sync settings have been changed.

According to a report, the messy photo-restoring bug has been reported in various cases. A user claimed that pics way back from 2010 re-emerged and got tagged “as the latest pics uploaded to iCloud.”

Another user reported that six photos from different times suddenly surfaced out of nowhere. These cases are disturbing if you consider the sensitivity of restored images. Let’s hope Apple will release a fix soon.

As per Apple Support, deleted images are kept in the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After that, they are permanently removed from the device. You can access this album and manually remove those pics entirely from your phone.
