iOS 18 now lets you lock and hide apps behind Face ID

Want to add an extra layer of security to your iPhone? iOS 18 introduces a new feature that allows you to lock apps behind Face ID. This is particularly useful for sensitive apps like banking, trading, or investment apps.

Here’s how to set it up:

  1. Choose an app: Select the app you want to protect.
  2. Long-press and select: Long-press on the app icon on your home screen and choose “Require Face ID.”
  3. Choose your option: You have three options:
    • Require Face ID: This will require Face ID authentication to open the app.
    • Hide and Require Face ID: This will hide the app icon from your home screen and require Face ID authentication to access it in the Hidden apps folder.
    • Cancel: This will cancel the process.

Note: Hiding an app will prevent you from receiving notifications, calls, or alerts from it. It also won’t appear in Siri suggestions.

To remove Face ID protection:

  1. Long-press and select: Long-press on the app icon and choose “Don’t Require Face ID.”
  2. Add to home screen (if hidden): If the app is hidden, go to the Hidden folder in the App Library, long-press on the app icon, and choose “Add to Home Screen.”

By using this feature, you can protect your sensitive apps from unauthorized access and enhance your iPhone’s security.
