The initial public release of iOS 26 introduced a fresh new design and a new generation of Apple Intelligence, but the true potential of the software is yet to be unlocked. While the major updates have landed, a wave of significant new features is still in the pipeline. These releases, from iOS 26.1 to 26.4, will bring key upgrades to everything from your digital wallet to Siri’s on-screen awareness, completing Apple’s vision for its mobile operating system.
The Wallet App

Apple is working on a Digital Passport feature for the Wallet app. While it was delayed for the initial iOS 26 release, it’s expected to arrive in a later update. This will allow users to store a digital version of their U.S. passport for identity verification at select TSA checkpoints and in-app.
Messages and Communication
Future iOS 26 updates will bring major changes to the Messages app, especially for cross-platform communication.

- End-to-End Encryption for RCS: Apple’s commitment to RCS is set to be enhanced with end-to-end encryption for truly secure conversations with non-Apple devices.
- New Messaging Features: Users can expect new features like polls in group chats and conversation backgrounds.
Siri and Intelligence
Siri is set to get a significant overhaul in iOS 26.4 with a focus on personal and on-screen awareness.

- Smarter Siri: A new, more personalized Siri will be able to perform actions based on what is visible on your screen, like creating a calendar event from a screenshot.
- “Personal Siri”: This new feature will have a deeper understanding of your on-device data, including your emails, photos, and messages, to provide more context-aware responses.
Other Notable Updates
- New Preview App: A standalone app is coming to the iPhone for robust document and PDF editing, including scanning and filling out forms.
- Camera and Photos Updates: The Camera app will get a simplified layout, and the Photos app will bring back separate tabs for “Library” and “Collections” for improved organization.

- Weather via Satellite: A rumored feature would provide weather information in areas with no cellular or Wi-Fi service.

- New Emojis: Expect a new batch of emojis from the Unicode 17.0 standard to arrive in a future update, likely in iOS 26.4.
Apple is holding back these major features for later updates. Do you think it’s a good strategy?
