Apple officially unveiled iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 during WWDC, and as expected, artificial intelligence took center stage. While the company introduced several design refinements and performance improvements, much of the presentation focused on the next evolution of Apple Intelligence and how it aims to make everyday iPhone and iPad use smarter and more seamless.
The headline feature is a significantly upgraded Siri experience. Apple is expanding Siri’s role across its ecosystem and is even introducing a dedicated app for the assistant. According to the company, Siri can now better understand personal context, analyze what’s currently on your screen, and pull information from the web to provide more natural conversations and more useful responses.
In short, Apple wants Siri to evolve from a simple voice command tool into a full-fledged AI assistant. Whether it delivers on that promise remains to be seen once the software reaches more devices.
Apple also continues refining its Liquid Glass design language. Users can now manually adjust transparency levels through a dedicated slider, while the interface benefits from more uniform refraction effects and improved contrast for a cleaner overall look.
Performance is getting attention too. Apple says apps can launch up to 30% faster, photos appear more quickly in the library, and AirDrop transfers are now up to 80% faster. The company also highlighted improvements in switching between Wi-Fi and cellular networks for a smoother connectivity experience.
Beyond the major announcements, Apple introduced several smaller but practical upgrades. Mail search is becoming smarter, VoiceOver can generate more detailed image descriptions, and subtitles now support automatic syncing and translation.
One of the more notable additions is expanded compatibility for iCloud Shared Albums. Android and Windows users can now contribute full-resolution photos and videos, addressing a long-standing limitation for mixed-platform households and groups.
On the iPad side, Apple is adding a new creative tool that can automatically turn collections of photos and videos into customizable slideshows complete with transitions, music, and export options.
iPadOS 27 is also gaining smarter productivity features. Calendar events can now be created and edited using natural language, while file transfers to external storage devices are reportedly up to five times faster than before.
As expected, not every feature will be available on all devices. Apple’s more advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities will require newer hardware, while many of the broader interface and performance improvements will also be available on older supported iPhones and iPads.
Developer beta versions of iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 are available starting today. A public beta is expected to arrive next month, with the final release scheduled for later this year.
While AI dominated the keynote, Apple’s latest software updates aren’t just about artificial intelligence. Many of the changes focus on making everyday tasks faster, smoother, and less frustrating; something users are likely to appreciate just as much as the headline AI features.
