If you’re still holding on to an iPhone 11, there’s good news. Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will support every iPhone currently running iOS 26, meaning no devices are being dropped this year.
That gives the iPhone 11 series another year of major software support, extending Apple’s update commitment well beyond the five-to-six-year cycle most users have come to expect.

Meanwhile, the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and first-generation iPhone SE have officially reached the end of the road and won’t receive iOS 27.
Apple Intelligence remains exclusive to newer iPhones
While iOS 27 is coming to a wide range of devices, not everyone gets the full Apple Intelligence experience.
Apple says its most advanced AI features require the A17 Pro chip or newer, limiting them to:
- iPhone 15 Pro
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- All iPhone 16 models
- All iPhone 17 models
These devices gain access to the new Siri AI experience, photorealistic Image Playground generation, Spatial Reframe in Photos, improved Clean Up tools, Extend, and other Apple Intelligence features.
Apple also notes that the iPhone 17 Pro series and iPhone Air will offer the strongest on-device AI performance thanks to their 12GB of RAM, allowing them to run more advanced AI models locally.
Siri takes center stage
The biggest upgrade in iOS 27 is the new Siri.
Apple says Siri can now maintain conversation context, understand what’s currently displayed on your screen, access personal information with permission, and complete multi-step actions across different apps. The company is also introducing a dedicated Siri app as part of its broader Apple Intelligence push.
The goal is clear: transform Siri from a voice assistant into a more capable AI companion.
Photos gets smarter
Apple is also bringing several AI-powered features to the Photos app.
A new Spatial Reframe tool lets users reposition subjects, adjust compositions, and even expand backgrounds after a photo has been taken.
Meanwhile, Image Playground now supports photorealistic image generation, while Memory Movies can automatically create themed video compilations from photos and videos stored in your library.
Faster across the board
Beyond AI, Apple is promising several performance improvements throughout iOS 27.
According to the company, users can expect:
- Up to 30% faster app launches
- Up to 70% faster photo library loading
- Up to 80% faster AirDrop transfers
- Faster external storage transfers
- Smoother multitasking
- Improved battery efficiency on older iPhones
Apple is also introducing customizable Liquid Glass controls, smarter dictation with automatic grammar and punctuation correction, natural-language Shortcut creation, upgraded parental controls, AI-powered app limits, and expanded Family Sharing safety tools.
When is iOS 27 coming?
Developer Beta 1 is available now through the Apple Developer Program.
A public beta is scheduled for July 2026, while the stable release is expected in September 2026 alongside the launch of the iPhone 18 series.
The takeaway is simple: if your iPhone already runs iOS 26, you’re getting iOS 27 too. The bigger question is whether your device has the hardware needed to unlock Apple’s full AI vision.
