Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, and early reports already paint a clear picture of what’s coming next for iPhones. From a redesigned Siri experience to expanded satellite capabilities, the update looks set to balance new features with long-overdue system refinements.
As with previous releases, the first developer beta of iOS 27 will likely roll out immediately after the keynote. A public beta is expected in July, followed by a stable release in September for compatible iPhones.
One of the biggest rumored changes is the introduction of a dedicated Siri app across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This new experience is said to bring a more chatbot-like interface, similar to platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
Users will reportedly be able to interact with Siri using both text and voice, while also gaining access to conversation history. A first for Apple’s assistant. A new “Extensions” feature is also expected, though details remain limited.
On supported iPhones, Siri may also integrate with the Dynamic Island, showing a “Search or Ask” prompt alongside a glowing cursor when activated.
Apple is also expected to finally roll out its previously delayed personalized Siri features, allowing the assistant to pull contextual data from apps like Mail and Messages for example, answering questions about flight details or reservations.
iOS 27 could significantly expand Apple’s satellite functionality, including support for 5G satellite internet connectivity. However, this feature may be limited to future models like the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Ultra with Apple’s next-generation C2 modem.
Additional rumored satellite features include:
- Apple Maps access via satellite
- Sending photos through Messages via satellite
- Third-party app integration for satellite services
- The ability to connect without pointing the iPhone toward the sky
These would build on Apple’s existing satellite tools, which already include Emergency SOS, Find My, Roadside Assistance, and Messages via satellite. All currently free in supported regions.
Rather than introducing sweeping visual changes, iOS 27 is said to follow a “Mac OS X Snow Leopard” philosophy, focusing on performance improvements, stability, and bug fixes.
Expect refinements to Apple’s Liquid Glass design, along with smoother overall system behavior rather than a dramatic redesign.
Apple is reportedly testing an enhanced keyboard with smarter autocorrect, offering alternative word suggestions in a way similar to Grammarly.
Other interface updates may include:
- A system-wide Liquid Glass opacity slider
- Undo and Redo options for Home Screen customization
iOS 27 is also expected to expand Apple Intelligence capabilities, particularly for iPhone 15 Pro models and newer.
Rumored additions include:
- Scanning nutrition labels to track calories and macros in the Health app
- Capturing phone numbers and addresses from printed materials into Contacts
- Converting physical tickets and cards into digital versions in Wallet
- Automatically naming Safari Tab Groups based on their content
The Photos app may also gain three new AI-powered editing tools, alongside improvements to existing features.
According to leaks, iOS 27 will support the iPhone 12 series and newer. This means the following models could lose support:
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
These devices are still expected to receive iOS 26 security updates for the foreseeable future.
Supported devices may include everything from the iPhone 12 lineup up to the upcoming iPhone 17 and iPhone Air models. However, Apple Intelligence features will remain limited to newer hardware, starting with the iPhone 15 Pro series.
