The iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while its user was asleep
An unfortunate event happened to a woman in Shanxi, China, who suffered from severe burns after her iPhone 14 Pro Max exploded while she was asleep. The incident took place around 6:30 a.m. as she was laying asleep with her iPhone charging nearby.
Her hand accidentally touched the flames when she turned over, which woke her up to a nightmarish scene of smoke and fire. Her iPhone was charred, her bedding scorched, and the room’s walls were singed.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max in question was purchased back in 2022, so no more warranty support. But regardless of the warranty status, Apple wants to get the device for analysis.
There are also unanswered questions. Was the device using the original battery? Was it repaired before? Was it repaired at an authorized service center? Was it being charged using the original charger? These may affect the device’s integrity.
Overcharging has been viewed as a big don’t in battery care because of risks. This is why many enthusiasts never recommend leaving your smartphone for overnight charging, especially if it doesn’t have safeguards.
Also, it’s highly recommended to use only the charger that came with your smartphone. While there are certified third-party charger brands, it’s preferable to get a new one from the brand.
This isn’t the first smartphone to explode. One of the notable ones is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that was recalled due to battery defects.
Always practice good charging habits to avoid such an incident.
