iPhone 15 getting at least 5 years of software support

The software support period for the upcoming iPhone 15 series is revealed thanks to a regulatory body.

Top brands and their flagship smartphones are recognized with long software support for major updates. This is one of the reasons why they are expensive because the extended software support kind of “refreshes” the lifespan of a flagship, at least, software-wise.

A recent report revealed that the software support for the iPhone 15 series will last for five years. It’s shorter compared to the seven-year support by Google and Samsung.

The detail allegedly unveiled by the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) in the UK. The support period noted a minimum of five years from the first supply date.

The “Defined Support Period” indicates the minimum length of time for which security updates will be given. The “security updates” mean any software update that protects or enhances the security of a product. An update that resolves issues is also counted as a security update.

Do take note that the five-year support is the minimum and Apple can still go beyond that. Also, the noted minimum support period doesn’t automatically stop Apple from releasing updates.

Compared to many Android brands, Apple has been committed to extended software support of many iPhones. Some older models even received beyond six years of support. Let’s just hope that Apple won’t limit itself to just five years.
