Last year’s iPhone lineup saw a controversial split, with the Pro models receiving the more powerful A17 Pro chip while the standard iPhones stuck with the A16 Bionic. This limited access to features like Apple Intelligence, frustrating many users.
Thankfully, aleak suggests Apple is changing course. Code discovered in Apple’s backend points to all four iPhone 16 models utilizing the next-generation A18 chip.
While a two-tier system with a potential “A18 Pro” for Pro models is still possible, even the base iPhone 16 should see a significant performance leap. This could involve slightly fewer GPU cores in the non-Pro models, achieved through chip binning or deactivation.
Interestingly, the leak revealed five device identifiers, hinting at a possible fifth iPhone 16 model. Speculation leans towards an early 2025 release for a new iPhone SE sporting the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16 family.
