Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max might see a significant upgrade in charging speeds, according to rumors emerging from China.
Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro models max out at 27W wired and 15W MagSafe wireless charging. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are tipped to reach 40W wired and 20W MagSafe, potentially translating to noticeably faster charging times.
However, it’s important to remember these are peak rates, meaning the actual charging speed won’t be constant. Whether this translates to a dramatic improvement in real-world charging time remains to be seen.
While still lagging behind some Chinese phone makers offering much higher wattage charging, this would be a welcome step forward for Apple. The rumored increase in charging speed could be Apple’s way to counteract larger battery capacities expected in the iPhone 16 Pro models, ensuring they charge at a similar pace to their predecessors.
Interestingly, a similar rumor about 40W wired and 20W MagSafe charging for the iPhone 16 Pro lineup surfaced last year. It also mentioned the possibility of stacked battery technology for increased capacity and lifespan.
Apple’s usual September launch timeframe suggests we’ll know for sure about the iPhone 16 series features soon, including the Pro models’ charging capabilities.
