iPhone 16 series to support JPEG-XL image format which is lossless and more efficient than JPEG

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series, set to launch later, is expected to feature four models: iPhone 16, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. While the series is anticipated to offer several enhancements, one notable omission is 8K video recording, a feature that has become increasingly common in Android flagships.

Storage Constraints and 10-bit ProRes:

The iPhone 16 Pro’s base storage option of 256GB is insufficient for recording 10-bit ProRes video in 8K resolution. This is due to the high storage requirements of this format, which can quickly fill up even larger storage capacities.

4K 120fps Video Support:

To compensate for the lack of 8K video, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to support 4K 120fps recording. This will provide smoother video footage, especially for action-packed scenes.

JPEG XL Image Format:

The iPhone 16 series is expected to introduce support for the JPEG XL image format. This next-generation format offers improved compression and quality compared to traditional JPEG images.

While the iPhone 16 series may not feature 8K video recording, it is likely to offer other significant upgrades, including enhanced video capabilities and support for the new JPEG XL image format.
