iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max owners may exclusively get Apple’s 2-nm processor.
Apple’s plan of launching its 2-nm CPU may go on schedule with just a caveat.
According to reports, Apple’s 2-nm processors may launch next year after reserving TSMC’s 2-nm line. But there’s a problem: the Taiwanese semiconductor firm is currently facing production issues.
TSMC is one of the largest chipmakers in the world that caters to the numerous tech giants, including MediaTek, Nvidia, and Samsung. While it certainly will produce Apple’s new chipsets, the 2-nm process technology has low yields. The possible ending is only the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will get them.
The new 2-nm line is already in place at the Baoshan plant and will start trial production in the third quarter of this year. If the low yield persists, the non-Pro iPhone 17 may get the A18 Pro instead.
Rumors that circulated online claim that Apple has already planned CPU advancements for the coming years. Cupertino may push the 1.6-nm CPU for a 2026 debut and 1.4-nm chipsets for a 2027 debut.
