Many consider the iPhone 17 Pro Series’ design as the most radical change in Apple’s history since the iPhone 11. Although Android fans would disagree, saying that the design has been around for quite some time. Regardless of what you think, Apple is slowly coming out of their comfort zone to show competitors why they’re still the best.
Plus, with a new CEO at the helm, who, mind you, served as the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, I think it’s safe to say this is only the beginning of a new era for Apple. Sure, that’s my opinion, but leaks circulating on the net also point to that fact.
The Reported Quad-Curved Display
Why, you ask? Aside from the previously reported move to put the Face ID sensor under the display, the iPhone 19 Pro Series will reportedly feature a quad-curved display. Something that we haven’t seen before on Apple devices, with the exception being the Apple Watch.
For years, Apple has refused to come on board on industry trends like the quad-curved display. At most, they’ve stuck with rounded edges like what we’ve seen in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 6 and even in their most radical one, the iPhone X, which featured a 2.5D cover glass that slightly sloped at the edge.
Why the Wait?
But why wait for the iPhone 19 Pro Series? Why not put it in the 18 Pro Series? Well, it could be that Apple is holding out to make the change coincide with Apple’s 20th anniversary. If you’re still not convinced, even famous or infamous tech leaker Digital Chat Station corroborated Jeff Pu‘s original claims, adding substantial credibility to the report.
According to DCS, the reported iPhone 19 Pro models are already undergoing “evaluation testing.” If the leak proves to be true, then we might see a new era for Apple’s design moving forward. Hell, it might even achieve the bezel-free appearance that its Android counterparts have long been chasing.
The Future of the Dynamic Island
We’ve already reported that the iPhone 18 Series this year will feature a smaller Dynamic Island, but that could change even further as Apple’s reported move to put the Face ID sensor underneath the display will shrink the Dynamic Island even further, giving you more screen real estate.
Will Apple stick with the pill-shaped cutout or will they now try a single tiny hole-punch cutout like what we’re seeing right now on Android phones?
What Can We Expect?
For now, we can expect that the upcoming iPhone 18 Series will mostly stick to its current design with a few improvements. But make no mistake, this year’s Apple hardware event will still be as eventful as any because of the rumored iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable.
